Another week has gone by here in NY, and with this we head into our last week in the US. KippiT has had amazing opportunities so far. This week we were able to meet several people that influenced us in great ways.
On Monday, Bisila Bokoko, one of the biggest businesswomen right now came to visit us and talked to us about her trajectory and her challenges. The visit went great, we had an open discussion about several aspects including entrepreneurship, business, social work and actuality. All the questions were answered thoroughly and she really enlightened the path for many of us. For those who do not know who Bisila Bokoko is: Bisila is a half spanish half african woman who lived in Valencia. She used to be in the chamber of commerce between the USA and Spain and currently owns two companies, BBES, a company that helps people introduce their business into other countries and BBALP, an association that helps communities in africa increase their literacy levels by building libraries for their community. Want to know more? Check out her projects and who she is!(BBES, BBALP) We were grateful to meet her, and she will certainly inspire others, the way she inspired us, to keep going and reach our goals and dreams.
Later that week we had Eduardo Valencia coming to visit us at Galvanize
. Eduardo Valencia is an expert at Data Mining. Eduardo came Tuesday and spent several hours talking to us. He really showed us the importance about data in business and how analyzing it is an essential part for any business to understand the outcomes better and predict the better outcome for any commerce. He showed us that data we acquired from the past can be used to predict future outcomes, however, there is always a small part you can;t control. However, this is never enough, because data can’t really predict human behaviour and this can alter the outcome of anything in a matter of seconds, so they are not 100% exact, since human behaviour is crucial and can never be predicted. Eduardo later answered a few questions proposed by our team members and colleagues from Indala, keeping a back and forth conversation between the students and the expert.
Last but not least, we had expert Jorge Mata, come and talk to us about his experiences. Jorge Mata is an experienced entrepreneur who has had a very experienced career, achieving a lot in very little time. Jorge Mata started off working in a particle accelerator and ended up doing something that is not even related to his initial footsteps. He moved to New York when he was 25 and he got an MBA at NYU. He presented us with the idea that the entrepreneurial world is totally different from the corporate world. He moved to Silicon Valley and worked as a salesman and later on opened up his own company. With this company, his life became a rollercoaster, he did not know how to earn money with it, but its worth was huge, several people saw a future in it and he ended up being successful with it. However, he did admit that every entrepreneur needs a luck in order to get far. Jorge Mata also showed us what an investor looks into, which is profit. He believes that when your create a company it is either to go into the stock market or sell it. He also gave us tips on how to share your company when opening it up, and the repercussions that there is when doing something 50/50, because it can always go wrong, since we are all humans. He also emphasized that one of the biggest indicators for an investor is the leader they have, leadership is essential for any company to go well. He taught us many things, if you are more curious do not doubt to ask any of our team members and we will gladly answer any questions and share the great experienced we had with Jorge.
Some of our team members also went to SAP. SAP is a German company, that has an office in New York. SAP is software that can be completely personalized to help your business management and analysis. It includes ERM, CPM and more, and collaborates with the biggest companies around the world. In this visit our team got to see their office, understand what they do better and how they got so far in the software business. They were able to experience a 1 on 1 visit, and got to see the insights of one of the biggest software companies in the world. It was a great experience, and we are thankful for the opportunity SAP gave us! Check out SAP to learn more.
